The Temples of Karnak & Luxor

Karnak Temple
Situated on the East Bank of the Nile, Karnak Temple is the largest temple in Egypt with massive 134 columns. An amazing feat of human engineering, the temple complex comprises three temples and took several generations to complete. The centrepiece is undoubtedly the Temple of Amun-Ra, the largest surviving column-supported temple in the World.. Also, there is the Great Scarab of Karnak statue in the compound and it is said that if one circles it anti-clockwise seven times, he/she would become wealthy.

Luxor Temple
Luxor Temple is smaller than the Karnak temple complex and also rests on the East Bank. It is built with a winding entrance shaped like the Nile. A huge statue of Ramses II stands guard over the sacred Luxor Temple and beyond its entrance you can view the courtyard of Ramses II, the small temple of Tutmose III and various side chapels depicting scenes of battles and religious ceremonies

The Temples of Karnak and Luxor were once connected by a grand avenue lined with sphinxes. Although much of this avenue has now disappeared, some of the Sphinxes remain and can be seen as you approach Luxor Temple.
