A ROYAL STEAMER RESTORED

A Royal Invitation to sail on the most luxurious steamship on the Nile, the SS Misr

7 nights from £1795

Join the lovingly restored SS Misr for a Nile cruise from Luxor, visiting ancient sites and temples, and learning of the great civilisations that have existed in the Nile Valley. This is a passage through antiquity, an incomparable river voyage that brings to life the great monuments of the Pharaohs and the divine kings of thirty dynasties who ruled Egypt for some 35 centuries before the birth of Christ.

A cruise on a Nile steamer as a leisure pursuit was pioneered by British tourists in the late 19th century looking for a comfortable way to visit Egypt’s vast sites. This however is no ordinary Nile cruise. You will travel in luxury aboard a five-star vessel, formerly owned by King Farouk of Egypt. The addition of every possible modern comfort allows today’s traveller to enjoy magnificent surroundings and an historic ambience in the wake of the last reigning King of Egypt.

The temple was originally on Philae Island but because of high water levels, the temple was dismantled in 1977 and reconstructed on a nearby higher island called Agilkai. This evening there will be an optional ‘Sound & Light Show’ at Philae Temple.

Day 5 - ASWAN.
Today there will be an optional excursion to the temples of Abu Simbel (by road), arguably the most remarkable of all Nubian antuquities. Alternatively, take the excursion to a Nubian village which will also include some bird watching. Sail the Edfu this afternoon for an overnight mooring.

The SS Misr

Originally constructed in Preston by the Royal Navy in 1918, the SS Misr was purchased and later converted into a luxury Nile steamer for King Farouk and is recorded as the venue for the King’s birthday celebrations. Now fully restored to a 5-star deluxe propeller steam vessel, the SS Misr accommodates just 45 passengers in spacious, air-conditioned cabins and suites and there is a crew of 63 to ensure the highest level of service. Misr means ‘the Kingdom of Egypt’ and the décor reflects the fashion of the period, each cabin with its own individual style. All cabins and suites have a private balcony, en-suite bathroom, hairdryer, mini-bar and television. The suites on the Upper deck are 50% larger in size than the standard cabins. The two Panorama suites at the front of the vessel offer impressive panoramic views. The Marasem Restaurant, Saraya Lounge and Dahabia Bar are located on the higher decks offering wonderful views of the Nile. The period-style restaurant accommodates all guests at one sitting. There is also a lower sun deck with comfortable wicker chairs and an upper sun deck with a pool and sun beds for relaxation.
